Local MSP Finlay Carson has welcomed the announcement of a £200,000 upgrade to theatre services at the Galloway Community Hospital.
The work, which is due to begin next month, will provide state of the art equipment for the facility.
Carson has hailed the success of a cross party petition which focused the attention of Government and senior NHS Dumfries and Galloway officials on the Galloway Community Hospital.
The announcement comes shortly after Health Secretary Shona Robsion agreed to meet with a cross-party group of elected representatives in Stranraer in the next few months, following an invitation to collect the petitions on the hospital.
Commenting, Galloway and West Dumfries MSP Finlay Carson said:
“I am in no doubt that this investment is in part down to the concern people have shown for the hospital.
“Thousands of local people signed the petition asking for a long term commitment by Dumfries and Galloway Health Board to equity of services across the region.
“The Scottish Government and NHS Dumfries and Galloway have had no choice but to listen, and now we are seeing results.
“I want this to be the start of a long-term commitment to the Galloway.
“I am delighted that Shona Robison has agreed to meet with a cross-party group of local representatives when she visits Stranraer in the coming months.”
