Galloway and West Dumfries MSP Finlay Carson has welcomed reassurances over Drummore Harbour that he has received from Dumfries and Galloway Council and the Scottish Government.
The Scottish Conservative and Unionist MSP who has engaged with relevant officials since the situation began, has corresponded with Dumfries and Galloway council officials, as well as contacting the Scottish Government’s Rural Economy Secretary Fergus Ewing MSP.
The council have now confirmed that £3,000 worth of funding has been made available to assist in clearing the harbour and Mr Carson welcomes this as a first step in providing assistance.
Commenting Finlay Carson MSP said: “In order to ensure a solution is found for the fishermen in Drummore, all stakeholders must work closely together.
“I urge the council to work with the Scottish Government in order to provide further assistance to harbour users, and I am delighted that Mr Ewing has ordered his officials to urgently look into the matter.
“It is pleasing that the council have provided initial funding and I am confident that they will work with the Scottish Government in order to provide assistance, while I welcome the Rural Economy Secretary looking urgently into the matter and I look forward to him outlining the Scottish Government’s support.
“This is a situation fishermen have never seen the likes of before, so we must continue to do all we can in order to alleviate the effects on our local community.”
