Galloway and West Dumfries MSP Finlay Carson says he welcomes the creation of a new group in Stranraer which will help to form plans to redevelop the town’s waterfront and marina.
The Scottish Conservative and Unionist MSP regards regenerating Stranraer as a top priority since his election in 2016, first convening major stakeholders for a meeting in November that year.
He has continued to challenge SNP Government Ministers to deliver on their pre-election promises of a £6m funding boost for the waterfront, which has yet to be delivered.
Mr Carson hopes that the new group can accelerate the up to now unacceptably slow process and to see plans turn into real action to redevelop the waterfront and East Pier to boost the local economy.
Commenting Finlay Carson MSP said: “The creation of this group is welcome and follow on from the stakeholder meeting I held last November with the council and other key stakeholders in relation to the development of the waterfront and marina in Stranraer.
“Ever since my election as the constituency MSP, I have been calling for this regeneration funding to be put in place in order to give a major boost to the local economy.
“Sadly that funding from the SNP Government, despite their pre-election promises has not been forthcoming.
“I am looking forward to working closely with this new group to deliver the vision they wish to see for Stranraer’s waterfront and marina area.”
