Galloway and West Dumfries MSP Finlay Carson has encouraged local charities and community groups to take advantage of a £3 million funding pot that has been raised by the players of the Postcode Lottery.
The Scottish Conservative and Unionist MSP has highlighted that applications are open until 14th August, and charities, community groups, voluntary groups and social enterprises can apply for grants from £500 up to £20,000.
Each trust supports projects focussed on different themes. Groups are encouraged to apply to the trust that best fits their proposed project:
- People’s Postcode Trust wants applications from projects aimed at promoting human rights, combatting discrimination and poverty prevention
- Postcode Community Trust supports initiatives working to improve the health and wellbeing of communities, including arts and physical recreation projects, as well as those with a focus on reducing isolation
- Postcode Local Trust provides funding that’s dedicated to improving outdoor space, in addition to increasing access to it. Groups working on flood prevention measures and looking to implement renewable energy strategies are also encouraged to apply.
Commenting, Finlay Carson MSP said: “This is an excellent opportunity for many groups across Galloway and West Dumfries to secure vital funding.
“Whether that is to start a new initiative, help build or expand on current projects, I would encourage as many local groups as possible to apply to the funds that best fits their needs.
“I hope that this funding can help many projects across my Galloway and West Dumfries constituency, helping to foster greater community spirit.”
