When Jenna Whalen saddled up to go on a marathon charity bike ride she hoped to raise just £500.
Several weeks on that total now stands at nearly £6,300 leaving the mum-of-three totally amazed – especially as it will rise to more than £7,000 once Gift Aid is added on..
Jenna, from Dalbeattie, cycled 100 miles on her Peleton exercise bike to raise money for the hospital staff who carried out open heart surgery on her son Josh.
She said: “I did the charity ride exactly a year since Josh went under the knife at Glasgow Sick Children’s hospital, so I had plenty of motivation.
“All the money from my Justgiving page will go to the cardiology department and the ward where he was treated.”
The young teacher was supported throughout by her brothers and sister-in-law and cousin in London along with friends in Edinburgh, who took to the road.
Her amazing efforts have been praised by Finlay Carson, MSP for Galloway and West Dumfries.
He said: “It is always wonderful when you hear about people giving something back – and being prepared to go that extra mile, although in Jenna’s case 100 of them.
“I am sure the staff at the hospital will be appreciative of her efforts and the fact she has smashed her target.
“I wish Jenna and her family good health in the future and hope people will still consider donating to her Justgiving page.”
Jenna revealed she was slightly stiff the following day from her mammoth efforts but did admit the Prosecco helped ease the pain!
Her donation page is still open at www.justgiving.com/fundraising/jenna-whalen.
