Galloway and West Dumfries MSP Finlay Carson says he welcomes confirmation from Dumfries and Galloway Health Board that there are no plans to downgrade the Galloway Community Hospital, based in Stranraer.
The Conservative MSP had taken up local campaigners concerns with NHS Dumfries and Galloway who confirmed to Mr Carson that this is not an option.
Furthermore, the health board also confirmed that they will be investing in improving the provision of local ophthalmology and CT services.
Commenting Finlay Carson MSP said: “Protecting rural health services is an absolute top priority of mine as the constituency MSP.
“I am pleased the local NHS board are in a position to confirm that they have no plans to downgrade services at the hospital in Stranraer, which would have been a hammer blow to the people of the area. I sincerely hope they are true to their word.
“However, what we need to see now is real support from the SNP Government for our rural health services, so that staff can be recruited and services continue to be of the highest standard.
“It is essential that the people of Stranraer and Wigtownshire have a hospital which will deliver the same level of positive health outcomes as other areas in Scotland. I will accept nothing less than equity and equality of healthcare.”
