Finlay welcomes consideration of pylon undergrounding

Galloway and West Dumfries MSP Finlay Carson has welcomed Scottish Power’s confirmation that they are set to fully investigate underground options for their network reinforcement project, KTR from Kendoon to Tongland.

The company have confirmed that following the Scottish Minister’s Scoping Opinion from last year they have appointed Cable Consulting International (CCI) Ltd to identify potential underground cable routes as an alternative to overhead lines in certain sections of the KTR Project.

The areas identified are; Polquhanity to Kendoon, Queen’s Way Crossing, Bennan, Slogarie and Laurieston Forests, A75 crossing and consideration of undergrounding the proposed Glenlee to Tongland route in its entirety.

Commenting Finlay Carson MSP said: “This is extremely welcome news that Scottish Power are taking on board the concerns raised by local communities during the consultation period.

“This is something I called for right from the very start.

“Local communities made it clear that they did not want to have the pylons blighting their communities so the fact that serious consideration is being given to move the project underground, is a step in the right direction.

“I will be continuing to engage closely with Scottish Power to ensure that the concerns of local residents continue to be heard.

“We must find a solution that fully takes their concerns on board.”
