Local constituency MSP Finlay Carson has welcomed confirmation of imminent work to improve signage at the accident blackspot Haugh of Urr junction.
The Galloway and West Dumfries MSP welcomed the news, saying: “This is the long awaited confirmation that after years and years of campaigning to have this junction improved we are within days of something actually happen. This news comes only days after yet another serious accident at the junction when it was a miracle no one was seriously injured.”
“Last year I asked Transport Scotland to investigate dangerous junctions on the A75 and, in particular, at the Haugh of Urr.”
The national transport body agreed to carry out a review of existing site conditions and the general infrastructure to make the route safer for motorists and HGVs.
The Scottish Conservative and Unionist MSP continued: “Amey carried out a review to see if any potential improvements could be made to avoid any more personal injury collisions at a number of locations.
Static signage installation on the A75 at B794 Haugh of Urr from this Monday 18th November until Saturday 30th November 2024, between 8am and 5pm, each day. The work is being carried out using temporary traffic lights and outwith these times the road will re-open as normal.
Once completed, work will begin in installing the new electronic signals, and this work is likely to be completed by early December.
The MSP continues. “ Only time will tell if the signs have the desired effect. If it becomes apparent that more needs to be done, I have been given assurances that further design work will be started to look at carriageway realignment.”
Amey also confirmed that for other junctions with a history of accidents at Twynholm and Tarff, that they are in the final stages of submitting a report with their recommendations, and this should be with Transport Scotland for review before the end of this year. Any works would then be programmed based on their response.
