Today, I wore it pink in Holyrood as I helped Breast Cancer Now raise awareness for the crucial research they are undertaking to support people who are affected by the illness.
Around 4,800 people in Scotland are diagnosed with breast cancer every year in Scotland, so it is critical that we stand together and give all of our support to incredible organisations such as Breast Cancer Now and all those that are fighting to eradicate this illness.
In a survey they undertook in 2023, they found that two thirds of UK primary care healthcare professional who responded to our 2023 survey either strongly or slightly agreed that patients with secondary breast cancer experience challenges in referral and diagnosis.
This is an issue that urgently needs addressing, as almost 100% of people survive breast cancer when diagnosed at stage 1, yet approximately 11,500 women die from the illness every year.
So I encourage everyone to wear it pink and support Breast Cancer Now, so that they can continue undertaking crucial research and saving lives.
