In Thursday's Scottish Conservatives led debate, I once again raised the plight of expectant mothers in Wigtownshire having to drive up to 90 miles to the maternity hospital in Dumfries to give birth, driving by their local accident and emergency hospitals.
I referenced two retired doctors who live in Galloway, Dr Gordon Baird and Dr Gordon White, both of whom state that without any appropriate action the system falls well below any acceptable standard.
This is simply not acceptable. We need to see patient centred care and a return to the option of midwife-led birthing services in Stranraer.
