Myself and other members of the Rural Affairs and Islands Committee travelled to the salmon-grower's state-of-the-art Barcaldine freshwater hatchery near Oban. There, we posed questions to a wide range of representatives from the industry and sector body Salmon Scotland, who are to appear at the committee evidence session on the 2nd of October.
We were taken out to Dunstaffnage marine farm where we had the pleasure of witnessing a fish farm in action. This provided an excellent opportunity to put our questions to those that are directly engaged in the sector. We were able to speak with those that are on the frontline of the salmon fishing sector and observe the heart and passion they put into their work. It provided valuable information that we will be bringing into the next evidence session.
Following the evidence session on the 2nd of October, the inquiry will then hear from the Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs, Land Reform and Islands the following week on the 9th of October. Afterwards, the committee will publish it's findings.
