Today I spoke with representatives from the National Biodiversity Network Trust, a collaborative project and partnership between many of the UK's Wildlife organisations, the UK Government, Local Government and environmental agencies. The aim of the NBN Trust is to 'make data work for nature'.
For more than twenty years they have been making biodiversity data accessible, to support better decisions about the natural world and to connect people with nature. This data project is critical in understanding not only the current state of our natural environment, but to protect and restore biodiversity. Without that data there is little hope for reversing biodiversity loss. We spoke of The Better Biodiversity Data project and how it is delivering the first phase of the development of a national biodiversity data service for Scotland, as well as the importance of reversing the biodiversity crisis. The national biodiversity data service will be essential for measuring progress against the Scottish Biodiversity Strategy and the forthcoming Natural Environment Act.
